Abstract
The use of synthetic dyes in cosmetic products such as lip balm is still commonly found, despite the potential health risks such as irritation and allergic reactions. Natural colorants are considered a safer and more environmentally friendly alternative. Butterfly pea flowers (Clitoria ternatea L.) and red dragon fruit peel (Hylocereus polyrhizus) are natural ingredients that contain anthocyanin and betacyanin compounds, which function both as natural colorants and antioxidants.
The purpose of this community service activity is to provide information and increase the knowledge of the target audience (women from the Al-Hikamah prayer group in Bengkulu City) regarding the use of butterfly pea flowers and dragon fruit peel as safe and beneficial natural colorants in the formulation of lip balm products.
The data collection method for this community service activity involved distributing a pre-test questionnaire to participants. Additionally, the activity included a tutorial on how to make lip balm. The results of this activity showed that participants were highly enthusiastic and gained a clear understanding of the benefits of natural colorants, as indicated by an increase in post-test knowledge scores ranging from 80% to 100%. All participants stated that the information provided was useful.
